History

Mosaic Lizard Theater is a well-structured and vibrant work place for actors, writers, and directors with emphasis on the theatrical arts and film and provides professional entertainment and workshops for all ages.

We’ve created a renowned theatre that produces world-class performances, and is a cultural and artistic hub not only in the Alhambra community, but also in outlying cities as well as the greater Los Angeles area.

Starting off as a performance art trio in 1992 (The Subterranean Lounge Lizards), then moving into traveling educations productions under the name of Lizard Theater. Educational productions toured schools in the Southern California area. Throughout this time, Lizard Theater also performed in comedy clubs and small theaters in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area.

In 2005 Lizard Theater opened in an intimate performance space within the Arte De Flamenco Theater of World Dance in Alhambra, CA where it gave new meaning to “intimate theatre.” The dance studio-converted-theatre sat an audience of 30, an experience that many patrons had never known and kept them coming back for more.

The Company debuted a number of new works, including the smash-hits, “Bar Talk”, “Like Something Out of the Twilight Zone”, “An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe” and “Iceberg Ahead!” among others. It was also home to revivals of works by playwrights such as Agatha Christie and Neil Simon.

In 2010, the Lizard Theater was approached by the city of Alhambra, which generously offered to relocate and build the state-of-the-art theatre complex that the Company is housed in now. Lizard Theater changed its name to Mosaic Lizard Theater to fit in with downtown Alhambra’s mosaic theme. Theater staff is the partnership of Jay Parker, Bryana Pickford and Ruben Aguilar.

While Mosaic Lizard Theater charges for workshops and performances, it never charges actors, writers, or directors to work in their productions. Our goal is to give the artists a positive working environment and resources. We also strive to give audiences the experience of live theater, of new and classic works at an affordable price.

Mosaic Lizard Theater is also a colorblind entity; race is never a casting issue.

  1. I just discovered your theater tonight and is so excited that you guys are in my neighborhood. I am currently studying at the Upright Citizens Brigade and is wondering if you rent out the theater for Improv team practices and better yet book teams from other schools? I live near by and would love to help out the theater in any way that I can!!!
    Thank you so much!!

  2. Hello! I’m interested in learning more about the Lizard Theater and any drama or comedy performances I might audition for. Many thanks!

    • Wonderful to hear, Earl! You could start out by checking out the Theater yourself. Our current show Shop Around the Corner is the perfect opportunity to do so. Showings are Fridays, Saturdays at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm — More info on our “Now Playing!” page. Bring your resumé along, and you could talk to the director face-to-face about future opportunities. Thanks!
